What is essential is invisible to the eye

“It is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye” - The Fox from ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The fox goes on to say that we - mankind - have forgotten this basic truth. So my question is, what is one thing we can do put us as one one with our heart; the heart that clearly sees that which is essential?

For me, and for many others over thousands of years, it is a daily meditation practice. The act of sitting still and turning our gaze inward is the clearest, simplest and most profound way to put us in touch with the essential; to reconnect us with our deepest truth.

Now perhaps this suggests that all my meditations are revelatory; that I receive rich insights each time I sit. This is not the case. The truth is, the benefit I experience is often quite subtle; a cool, calm stillness that permeates my daily being. A gift that keeps on giving in the form of a finer-sense of feeling; a gift that keeps on taking - incrementally - in the way of anxiety and stress; and a gift that heals evermore, both physically and emotionally.

It is amazing the new insight I’ve received on past events also. In the Vedic meditation tradition this is called ‘inspiring the past’ - part of a longer chat a little further down the line. Just know that as we grow (with the aid of meditation) the past, the present, and the future are ever-evolving also. Think of it this way: deeper insight = greater understanding = new meaning given to past events.

“What makes the desert so beautiful… is that it hides a well somewhere” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Is there something you wish to understand in greater depth? An event from your past? Or numerous experiences you’ve had over time?

If you were to sit still for 20 minutes, twice each day, the well of insight to the desert of past-experience would reveal its beauty over time.

To meditate is to reconnect to the Source; to tap our deepest truth and to see, to truly see with our hearts that which is essential.

“…be it a house, the stars or the desert, the source of their beauty cannot be seen” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

But it sure can be felt.
